February 2025

  • Slab grade poured in Area A&B.
  • Roof decking for A&B completed.
  • Roof drain piping installation began on the 2nd floor.

March 2025

  • All slab on grade was poured and completed.
  • Exterior framing completed, with only a small amount left of sheathing remaining to be completed.
  • Weather barrier installation nearly completed on Areas C&D.
  • Interior framing on 2nd floor Areas C&D completed andAreas A&B progressing.

Additive Manufacturing Adoption
  • The Operational Qualification Guidance Document was completed with engagement from industry and regulatory authorities that included the Department of Defense, Colibrium Additive, a GE Aerospace Company, and The Boeing Company.  The document will assist industry develop qualified factories.
  • Alloy 718 was selected for further investigation and equivalency studies. The first production line of test coupons have been received  back from heat treat and thematerial testing will begin next quarter.
  • Intro AM Certificate was held this quarter on February 27-28, 2025. After each class we survey the attendees and improve all training classes based off the responses. • The next Intro AM Certificated class is scheduled for May 7-8, 2025.
  • Supplier audits have been completed but remain available for additional opportunities that may present themselves. These audits are helping shape the future readiness of Additive Manufacturing.
Smart Manufacturing/Future Factory
  • AMP Lab’s Metrology Training Center classroom – focus on technology supplies purchase; student laptops, AV equipment, higher functioning desktops and laptops for metrology equipment, and other technology peripherals.
  • Working with IDP IT staff to design IT systems for student and metrology equipment access in the classroom.
  • RigiMill assembly continues, safety fencing added, machine fired up and techs working on calibration. • RigiMill supplies purchase – Vericut software & Schunk workholding supplies.
  • Posted new position for CNC Programmer/Operator for the RigiMill, will be machining instructor for the 4th EDA role. • AMP is developing a training partnership with Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence division to deliver CMM training at Hexagon’s Innovation Campus lab for their regional customers.
  • GD&T Concepts & Application and GDT& Analysis courses offered during this quarter.
  • Cisco partnered IoT courses now offered for credit in WSU Tech’s Robotics AAS & TC programs.
  • Progressing in the design of CMMC  industry courses. • Revamped K-12 Summer Camp offerings in 2025, adding STEM focused “Grits and Gears” for boys in grades 3-8.
  • WSU Tech is co-sponsoring and will host the 2025 CMMC Midwest Conference on May 1-2, 2025, on their NCAT campus. Opportunity to engage with industry and entrepreneurs in need of training for CMMC compliance for DoD contracts. 
Governance and Evaluation
  • Governance Advisory Updates - BBB briefing presented to the Kansas Department of Commerce in Topeka in January 2025.
  • South Kansas Coalition Members engaged in BBR Communities of Practice  (CoP) virtual meetings: Manufacturing CoP, leadership, and workforce development.
  • The Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce’s Inclusion & Diversity Committee met on Feb 13th and are in the process of updating the “Ask a Pro” area of their website.
  • Coalition staff completed a virtual 30-minute Interview on Equity activity with Emily Aiken, University of Michigan’s Growth Institute, as part of Purdue University’s CoP role in the BBBRC Community of Practice.
  • Create Campaign Inc. released their 2024 Impact Report highlighting the approval of $166,200 in lending to minority and underserved innovators. A new cohort of 12-week SPARK cohort classes for new and growing for-profit minority owned business began in this quarter.
  • Re-design of theinteractive dashboard  was done and published on the South Kansas Coalition’s dashboard website.

Quarterly Spotlight:

WSU’s Strategic Initiatives Program Director and IDP Project Managers met with three SMM leadership teams, touring their facilities and soliciting feedback on their current workforce skills gaps.  Additives and Smart Manufacturing /Future Factory staff also continue to engage manufacturing company leadership, equipment/software vendors, and local manufacturing associations to provide feedback on curriculum needs and design.
