  • Building Key Plan graphic shared showing A,B,C, and D building sectors for reference
  • Footings along with waterproofing on exterior walls for the entire building have been completed
  • Steel erection has begun in Areas C and D

  • Elevator pit is poured, and underground plumbing rough continues in Areas A & B

  • Forming/pouring stem walls along all Areas and bays exterior walls​

Additive Manufacturing Adoption
  • Engagement with industry and regulatory authorities including the Department of Defense, GE Additive, and Boeing continues in support of a part production qualification whitepaper to assist industry with the development of qualified factories.  
  • Alloy 718 was selected for further investigation and equivalency studies. Test coupons have been generated for testing and are currently in the process of heat treat with testing to follow.
  • The curriculum launched based on current skills expressed by regional industry both through an industry needs survey completed in spring 2023 and the qualitative follow-up through lab staff and internal beta-testing. Introductory AM Certificate Program, Intermediate AM Certificate Program, Expert AM Certificate Program. AFP Manufacturing, AFP Programming, AFP Operations and Maintenance 
  • Suppliers are being evaluated for qualified factory audit beta testing. Multiple contracts gained from this process.
Smart Manufacturing/Future Factory​
  • Classroom design & development at the NIAR AMP facility.
  • RigiMill space preparation. July/August – foundation pit dug, and rebar reinforcement installed, 9/5/24 – 26 truckloads of concrete poured, cure time 4-6 weeks. End of Sept – unpack containers 1&2 , begin rough setting (float) foundation rails.
  • Hosted BBR Convening Industry tours at WSU Tech and NIAR AMP lab on 9/10/24 – showcased EDA funded equipment, explanation of equipment capability/tying to industry 4.0 development, skills integration with other advanced mfg. training programs.
  • NIAR AMP – GD&T and GPS Concepts and Applications Airbus & Spirit Aerosystems cohort classes for engineers. AMP engineers collaborating with Aviation OEM on a research project to use in developing probing & automation for Advanced Operator courses.
  • AMP team members attended the Farnborough Airshow & Chicago IMTS, having conversations with other manufacturers about NIAR EDA funded advanced/future factory training .
  • WSU Tech hosted two weeks of Girls Rock Science. Week 1 -72 third-fifth graders & Week 2 – 69 sixth-eighth graders, with demographic zip code breakdowns to include 28/distressed urban, 104/urban, 8 rural, and 1 distressed rural area.
Governance and Evaluation​
  • The Chamber hired a student DEI intern & she began with familiarization of the Chamber’s DEI strategic plan, community outreach to the Chamber’s DEI advisory committee, and solicited local DEI practitioners as resources for the Chamber’s website/members.
  • MOU signed with Create Campaign, a minority business development nonprofit that advances inclusion in entrepreneurship, July 2024. Student intern hired, oversaw launch of a commercial kitchen incubator for food-based entrepreneurs.
  • Chamber Bi-monthly DEI Advisory Committee meetings held on 7/11/24 and 8/8/24.
  • Coalition representation at the 2024 DEI Summit hosted by the Wichita Business Journal at the Kansas Leadership Center 8/1/24.
  • Bi-weekly planning meetings were held for the September BBR Regional Convening: agenda development, determining presentation topics & speakers, and site logistics.
  • WSU’s economist continues to collect  economic and industry data for the public coalition dashboard.

Regional Workshop in Wichita, Kansas | September 10-12, 2024​
The EDA Building Better Regions held is 1st regional workshop, in partnership with the South Kansas Coalition, on the Wichita State University and WSU Tech campuses. There were 120+ people in attendance representing sixteen of twenty-one winning  BBB coalitions, EDA, SSTI, RTI and Wichita area guests.  The workshops gave an opportunity to connect in person, hear about the work in South Kansas and other regions, engage in discussions on workforce/sustainability/and industry (among other topics) and lastly to learn about best practices being shared during panels and networking conversations. ​
