Joshua Parsons is the HVAC supervisor here at the Facilities Service Department. He holds an indispensable role in managing HVAC systems installations, maintenance, and repairs while ensuring compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards, and is instrumental in the professional development of his staff. Just to give you a peek into his world: he and his team annually change between 5,000–6,000 filters, 100–200 v-belts, maintain thousands of heating and air conditioning coils and wash/service eleven chillers for the entire WSU campus.

I am pleased to have met Joshua Parsons and have known him for well over ten years. We would pass each other in the hall and cordially say “hello.” Then one day, he just struck up a conversation with me and somehow figured out that it would be great to play tricks on me. He would rearrange stuff on my desk or try and sneak up on me to make me jump—and this is the reason today I have a small rearview mirror on my computer. Joshua took on the task of making me laugh every time we saw each other. I guess you can say it was somewhat of a stress relief for us both. I genuinely enjoy his sense of humor.

But on a serious note, Joshua is a gentleman who has tremendous respect for others. Joshua is very polite whenever he responds to a radio call, or when he is responding after hours to a problem at the university. He is well trusted and respected by his staff. He is truly proficient and knowledgeable about HVAC—sometimes people come to him with questions about their home unit and he will make suggestions to try this or that, freely giving to others without expecting anything in return.

Overall, Joshua Parsons is a man with integrity, a generous spirit, and a great sense of humor. I am glad he is part of our Facilities Services team here at the university, and that our paths crossed. Besides, with the name Joshua—which in Hebrew means “God is his help”—he cannot be all that bad. Right?
