Why was the Starbucks built on the Innovation Campus instead of more centrally on campus?
A: Opening a standalone Starbucks in the new Braeburn Square development allows for features that aren't possible elsewhere on campus, including the drive-through option and the kitchen space necessary to offer full Starbucks menu. As a destination coffeehouse, locating the store on 21st Street also avoids potential traffic problems while allowing the store access to higher traffic flow.
Q: How does the financing for Starbucks work?
A: All Braeburn Square buildings, including Starbucks, are being privately financed without the use of student fee monies or state funds.
Q: Why did WSU decide on a chain coffee shop?
A: The development group creating the retail portion of Innovation Campus known as Braeburn Square is talking with local, regional and national companies. Starbucks’ commitment signals to prospective students and parents that one of the world’s best known brands sees the value of operating at Wichita State.
Q: Will there be local coffee providers on Innovation Campus?
A: The newly opened Mega-Bytes convenience store, located in the Experiential Engineering Building on the Innovation Campus, has contracted with local shop Reverie Coffee Roasters to supply coffee to customers. Coffee from local roaster Sunflower Espresso is also available Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the WSU Food Truck Plaza.
Q: Where is the nearest shuttle stop?
The closest stop is the one on Mike Oatman Drive (near the Marcus Welcome Center)
Q: Where can I park?
There are 12 spaces designated Starbucks Parking Only. There is also a student/faculty/staff/visitor lot adjacent to the building. For more information on campus parking, go to wichita.edu/parking.
