WSU Fishing Club

The WSU Fishing Club is your campus hub for outdoor adventure and community, bringing together students of all skill levels to share a passion for nature and angling. Through our weekly meetings, members connect, swap stories, and plan upcoming adventures, while our hands-on workshops help everyone learn new techniques or sharpen existing skills. Beyond the classroom, we hit the water together on group fishing trips, camping getaways, and more—all while championing ethical fishing practices and local conservation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the club?

Any Wichita State University student or alumni may join the WSU Fishing Club

When does the club meet?

We have weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings @ 6 PM in Heskett, 206. We do not have meetings when classes are not in session.

Do I need to have a fishing license?

You need a Kansas State Fishing License if you plan to be anywhere near a fishing pole. If you are an out-of-state student, feel free to show your student ID as a way of getting in-state fishing prices. We recommend you going to Bass Pro Shops for this as they have been wonderful to work with in the past.

Do I need to have my own gear?

You do not, but it is great if you have some! The club does have some gear for students to use, but it is limited.

Are there leadership opportunities?

There are! We are a student-led organization, meaning that everything is created, planned, and taken care of for students by students. We have an executive team consisting of a President, Vice President, and Treasurer with additional opportunities when necessary.

Are there ways to get involved with the community through the club?

Yes! We do monthly community cleanups at local fishing spots as well as connect with community organizations.
