Aaron Mounts Resigns from Committee Chair Position

Wichita, KS- President Miller received and accepted the resignation of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chairman, Aaron Mounts. Senator Mounts announced his resignation during the Senate meeting on January 29th and formally submitted a resignation letter on February 4, 2020 effective February 5, 2020.


Senator Mounts will retain his position of At-Large Senator and will be appointed to a committee for the remainder of the 62nd Session. In his resignation letter, Mounts said, “Thank you for trusting me enough to have nominated me in September and I am glad to have served you and our student government. I look forward to continuing my efforts as a Senator.” Although his role has changed, Mounts looks forward to the rest of the 62nd Session and continuing to advocate for the student body.


The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee previously submitted a letter to the Senate Review Board in regards to their concerns with Mount’s work as Chairman. The Senate Review Board provided no recommendations to the Senate for sanctions or removal. Mounts continued to hold the position until his formal resignation.


Following Mounts’ resignation, on February 4th, President Miller issued Executive Order 62-013 appointing Senator Zachary James as interim Chairman of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Interim Chairman James was sworn into office on February 4th and will assume all duties until a formal nomination is made.
