Aug. 26, 2024 - Casey Ratzlaff, a sport management major at Wichita State, will play in the men’s open division in the Paris Paralympics Games starting in late August. He is the top-ranked American and seeded No. 13 in the 64-man field.

The nine competencies are designed to help students to have a clearer understanding of what skills they are developing by taking specific classes as liberal arts and sciences majors. They also promote the value of a liberal arts and sciences education and incorporate skills employers value in employees.

Through the evaluation of personal correspondence, diaries, annotations and a miscellany of other vehicles of communication, Roussel’s research brings attention to the strategies employed by women writers in the sixteenth century to demonstrate their intellect and morality in a society which discouraged their individuation.

Aug. 14, 2024 - Ryan Barnes appears on a path to be the next PBA Tour great and heir to a family bowling legacy the tour last experienced with Dick and Pete Weber. “(Ryan) has all the makings of a superstar,” PBA Tour Commissioner Tom Clark said. “He’s clearly obsessed with being the best he can be. That something that’s rare in athletes. He’s got it.”

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University has named Christopher Stone as the new Chair of the Management Department. Dr. Stone, a faculty member since 2018, has served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Management at the Barton School. He succeeds Gery Markova, who has served as Chair since 2021 and has been instrumental in leading the department and initiating new programs, among other achievements.

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Siyu Wang as the new chair of the Department of Economics. Dr. Wang, a professor at the Barton School since August 2020 and head of the Behavioral Economics Lab, succeeds Jen-Chi Cheng, who has expertly led the department for more than 20 years.

Aug. 9, 2024 — The Shocker Comeback Program is designed for all returning students, whether they’ve taken a year break or been away from the classroom for over 10 years. Shocker Comeback students will have the support of WSU’s Office of Online and Adult Learning to make sure they persist and receive their diplomas.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Dinkel, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Koch, Inc., as the new Chair-Elect of the Barton School Dean’s “Fabulous 50” Advisory Board, effective July 1, 2024. He will succeed Margaret Dechant and will begin his three-year term as Board Chair on July 1, 2025, serving through June 30, 2028.

Aug. 7, 2024 — Wichita State University has established the Aetna Better Health Endowed Workforce Badge Program Fund, thanks to a generous gift from Aetna Better Health.

The difficulties of the past year are behind former Wichita State University sprinter Paula Garcia. She can enjoy her spot on Spain’s 2024 Olympic team. Garcia, who ran for the Shockers from 2017-2022, is a member of the 400-meter relay team.
