Dec. 17, 2019 -- Thanks to Andrew Swindle, WSU's hydrogeology professor, the university now has a hydrogeology field site for students and researchers. This site is the only one of its size in Kansas and the surrounding states.

Dec. 5, 2019 -- The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released updated rankings for university research and development (R&D) expenditures, and Wichita State has held its position as the top university in the country for industry-funded aeronautical R&D with a total of $39 million in fiscal year 2018.

Nov. 20, 2019 -- Martin Ratcliffe, adjunct professor in the Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College, teaches students that space and the people who study it aren’t all that far away.

Sept. 20, 2019 -- The Wichita State University Library Special Collection and University Archives has received a large gift of scientific documents and artifacts from accomplished meteorologist Mike Smith.

Aug. 12, 2019 -- Wichita State University has set a new record for research and development awards, with a total of $136 million in fiscal year 2019, which ended June 30, topping last year’s record-breaking total of $104 million.

July 10, 2019 -- Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research received a three-year $33 million contract from the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center for a project focused on emerging materials for high-speed missile applications.

July 8, 2019 - Eddie Sandoval graduated from Wichita State in 2017 with a business finance degree. While in school, he used the resources around him to launch a successful business called Pinole Blue.

July 2, 2019 -- Wichita State University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville have entered into a partnership to mutually strengthen capabilities in fixed-wing commercial, civil and rotary wing military aircraft research and development in order to more effectively serve the U.S. Army.

July 2, 2019 -- A recent grant will allow Wichita State’s National Institute for Aviation Research to speed up the manufacturing process for aerospace and defense industries.

June 26, 2019 -- A NASA-funded Wichita State University research project will seek to understand how the human brain responds to gravity while in space.

May 31, 2019 -- Coleen Pugh, a professor of Polymer Science at the University of Akron (Ohio), has been named the new dean of the Wichita State University Graduate School and associate vice president for Research and Technology Transfer, effective July 28.

May 20, 2019 -- Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research houses a virtual reality center, known as The Cave, which stands for computer-aided virtual environment.

March 22, 2019 -- Wichita State University has received a $2 million grant contract from the U.S. Economic Development Association to develop and demonstrate advanced composite material manufacturing technology.

March 18, 2019 -- In newly released national rankings of universities offering a Ph.D. in engineering, the College of Engineering at Wichita State University is ranked in the top 100 engineering graduate programs, one of only two institutions from the state of Kansas to make the list.
