Four Corners of Kansas Series Part 3: Southeast Kansas

Kansas Crossroads and Legends

Date: Saturday, April 11
Time: 7:30a-7:30p
Cost: $154
Activity Level 2
Meals Included: Lunch
This journey marks the third trip in our Four Corners of Kansas Day Trip Series, designed to explore the people, places, and stories that define every corner of the Sunflower State. On this installment, we travel from Wichita into southeast Kansas, discovering adventure, frontier justice, and elegant history along the way. Our day begins with a morning departure from Wichita, arriving at the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum in Chanute. This unique museum celebrates the lives of world-renowned explorers, filmmakers, and authors whose African safaris captivated the world. The visit is self-guided, with engaging storyboards, artifacts, and a 10-minute introductory film. A museum director and volunteer will be available to answer questions, and an elevator provides access to the second floor. We’ll spend approximately 1–2 hours exploring the museum. We then depart Chanute and enjoy a scenic 50-minute drive to Coffeyville, where lunch awaits at The Yoke, a beloved local favorite. After lunch, we take a short walk—just half a block—to the infamous site of the Dalton Gang raid, including Death Alley, where the dramatic events of Coffeyville’s outlaw past unfolded. From there, we continue to the Dalton Defenders Museum, featuring extensive collections related to the Dalton raid, early Coffeyville history, memorabilia from Wendell Willkie, and artifacts honoring baseball legend Walter Johnson. Our final stop is the stately Brown Mansion, a beautifully preserved 1906 home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Perched atop a hill, the mansion features sweeping verandas, an ornate portico, and interiors still furnished with the Brown family’s original belongings, offering a captivating glimpse into Kansas’ past elegance. As we return to Wichita, relax and reflect on another memorable chapter in our Four Corners of Kansas series—where history, adventure, and local legends come together for a perfect day trip. Reminder- if you attend all four trips in this series, you’ll get 40% off the final trip!

What’s Manhappenin’? A Curated Day Trip of Wine, Farm & Art

Date: Saturday, April 25
Time: 7:30a-7:30p
Cost: $174
Activity Level 2
Meals Included: Lunch
Begin the day in Manhattan, KS at the Liquid Art Vineyard & Estate, where premium Vitis vinifera grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are grown across 20 acres of estate vineyards. Learn how Liquid Art has expanded winegrowing across Kansas, developing more than 100 additional acres through vineyard partnerships. Guests will enjoy four wine tastings, including a memorable sample drawn directly from an aging tank during the indoor production tour. Next, visit family-owned A & H Farm, operated by Andrea and Hugo and their eight children. Named the 2017 Kansas Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year, the farm blends generations of tradition with modern agritourism. You will enjoy a scratch-made farm lunch featuring local chicken or steak, rice and beans, nachos or tortillas, fresh toppings, and five or more homemade salsas. This is a peek into agritourism in the State of Kansas. There is a great possibility for tulip blooms, though that is always weather-dependent. For many visitors, some favorite activities include visiting and interacting with the animals, walking the flower fields and orchard areas, shopping in the farm store, enjoying time outdoors at a relaxed pace, and simply taking in the scenery.  Our final stop will be at the Museum of Art and Light, featuring rotating exhibitions across three floors. Galleries showcase fine art, immersive installations created in-house, and works by emerging digital artists. Each exhibit offers a multi-sensory experience that invites visitors to engage with art in dynamic and unexpected ways. We promise this is an art museum like no other. As we head home, we can reminisce on the adventures in the beautiful rolling hills of the Flint Hills region.

Improv Classes with United Comedy Academy, Inc.

You’ll learn, you’ll perform, you’ll have a blast! Come explore long form improv! We get rid of the games, the guessing, the constraints. This is the stuff SNL sketches come from, and the tools used when movies use improvised scenes instead of written material. You will personally benefit just by trying improv - voice projection, teamwork, building confidence, and finding calm in the unknown. Not only will you learn the tools to be a successful improvisor, but in the last class you will “graduate” via performance for a live audience. You have a goal to achieve with teammates to help get you there. This class is for all levels, including those with no experience. Wait no more, come explore!

Clear Reflections: Turning Memories into Décor

memory boxresin block with flowersThis course offers an introductory, hands-on experience with epoxy resin for crafting. Participants will learn the basics of working with resin while creating a clear keepsake or memory box that transforms personal mementos into a functional piece of home décor. Bring items such as vacation sand or shells, dried flowers, ticket stubs, or other small keepsakes to preserve and display. The course includes 20 oz of low-odor resin, an 8.5” L × 5.8” W × 2” H reusable mold (yours to keep), and all required personal protective equipment (PPE). The first 30 minutes of class will cover safety guidelines and an overview of the resin process, followed by approximately one hour dedicated to pouring and creating your project. It is recommended that projects be left at the Hughes Metroplex overnight to properly cure and picked up the following morning. If you choose to transport your project after class, care must be taken to keep the mold level, well-protected, and in a vehicle maintained at 65°F or above during transport. Please bring a pyrex pan for this. Required attire: long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes.
