Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED)

Wear comfortable attire for sitting and mild activity throughout the day. A shirt will be provided for all mentors and participants to wear that day, either to change into or throw over your clothes. Mentors: you are welcome to bring your t-shirt from prior years or get a new one at check-in (same t-shirt).

Mentors will guide participants throughout STEM activities, ice breakers, an opportunity fair, and inspirational keynote speeches.

Participants who are driving themselves, mentors, and volunteers may park in Lot 25 on the south side of 17th Street, across from Fairmount Steet. Visit wichita.edu/map for an interactive campus map.

Any engineering or computing professional, faculty, or college student can register to mentor. Participants must be freshman-seniors attending any high school.

The College of Engineering at Wichita State offers degrees in many fields including: Aerospace Engineering, Applied Engineering (Sustainability & Environmental Engineering, Process Automation, & Engineering Management), Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Product Design & Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. However, professional mentors and industry partners will represent additional STEM fields.

IGED is mentored by local professionals working in the engineering and computing fields, as well as students or professors from the College of Engineering at Wichita State.

Pastries and coffee at check-in and boxed lunches are provided for all mentors and participants, as well as a t-shirt. High school students also receive an IGED tote bag and have the opportunity to grab industries swag during the Opportunity Fair.

IGED inspires and empowers young students to consider engineering and computing careers, wether they have no connections in STEM or are already considering an educational journey in the field. IGED also connects collegiate and professional mentors with each other through networking.
