Kansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE)

 

In partnership with the National Institutes of Health, the Kansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE) program is seeking qualified Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering undergraduates to apply for K-INBRE funding in the following area:

K-INBRE SCHOLAR AWARDS
Funding of $2000 (plus $750) in supply funds for the faculty sponsor’s laboratory) per semester will be awarded to support undergraduate student participation in ongoing faculty research projects beginning in the fall semester.


Undergraduates interested in applying for funding should seek out a faculty mentor in their major or area of interest and in whose lab they can conduct research. The mentor and student submit the application together.

POTENTIAL MENTORS include research-active faculty members in the following departments:

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must be enrolled in Biol 499, Chem 690, Biol/Chem 669 or Bme 590 during the semester(s) of support (you do not have to be enrolled to apply and can enroll after an award is made)
  • Students selected for support are expected to participate and present their research at an all-campus research conference, the K-INBRE Symposium, which is held every January, as well as at the WSU Undergraduate Research Forum held in May.
  • Participation in K-INBRE student/mentor luncheons is also expected (dates to be announced)

DEADLINES, FUNDING AND APPLICATION

  • Applications will be accepted for consideration.  See your research mentor for details and deadlines.
  • Applications must be submitted electronically as a single PDF file.
  • The faculty sponsor and scholar applicant will provide the following in their application:
    -Contact information (phone, mailing address, and e-mail) for both sponsor and scholar applicant.
    -A one-page scientific research plan (with research project title plus names of the scholar applicant and faculty sponsor) along with a brief budget statement.
    -A two-page, NIH-style biographical sketch for the sponsor.
    -A curriculum vitae or resumé for the scholar (it is important to include career goals and plans for graduate education).
    -An up-to-date copy of the scholar’s academic transcript. (An unofficial copy is acceptable)
    -Completed applications should be sent to the K-INBRE Undergraduate Support Core Administrator: meris.carte@wichita.edu.
