Major Moves:  Your College & Career Jumpstart!

Designed for high school graduates entering Wichita State University with a Liberal Arts and Sciences major or undecided major, this engaging two-day program provides a foundation for academic and career success.  Participants will explore their interests, values, and skills while gaining insight into the academic and professional opportunities available at WSU.

 

Program Highlights

  • Major & Career Exploration:  Learn how to articulate your interests and career goals while understanding the connection between your personality, communication style, and career choices.
  • Personal Values & Prioritization:  Reflect on and prioritize your personal and work values to align them with your future plans.
  • Understanding WSU & Degree Programs:  Gain a clear understanding of WSU's academic structure and available degree options.
  • Career Development Resources:  Discover the services offered by the Office of Career Development/Shocker Career Accelerator, and learn how to leverage these resources for internships, work-based learning, and other career-related experiences.
  • World of Work:  Understand labor market trends, employer expectations, and the steps to stand out as a job candidate.
  • Building Transferable Skills:  Identify and effectively communicate the transferable skills you gain through academics, extracurricular activities, and other college experiences.
  • Career Exploration Tools:  Develop skills to conduct online research about careers, industries, and job opportunities.
  • Strategic Planning for Success:  Learn how to use out-of-class experiences, including student organizations and volunteer work, to boost your employability.

By the end of this program, students will feel confident navigating their first year of college and taking proactive steps toward their future careers.  This dynamic, interactive experience combines workshops, hands-on activities, and personalized guidance to set the foundation for academic and professional achievement.

  • Who Can Attend: Any first-year student needing to seek clarity or confirm their major/career pathways.
  • Registration Priority Deadline:  July 1, 2025.
  • Date:  August 12 to August 13, 2025.
  • Time:  8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Program Size:  Limited availability to the first 25 students; reserve your spot today!
  • Freshman Orientation: Freshman Orientation is not required, but encouraged prior to attending.
