GEN ED FOUNDATION PREREQUISITES

Foundation courses must be complete with a C- (1.7) grade within the first 48 hours of college coursework.

ADDITIONAL GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Transfer students should confirm general education needs with a CHP academic advisor.
  • General education coursework is waived for students who have earned a prior bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Students who have completed an AA or AS through a Kansas Community College may choose to fulfill general education requirements by completing two 300-level general education courses at Wichita State University. These courses must represent two subject areas.
  • All general education coursework must be complete prior to starting the MLS program.
WSU GEN ED CURRICULUM
  • All students may follow this curriculum. 
  • At least 9 credit hours must be numbered 300 or higher.

DIVISIONAL REQUIREMENTS*

Complete one course in each division (12 credit hours):

  • Fine Arts
  • Humanities
  • Social/Behavioral Science
  • Math/Natural Science

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS*

Complete four courses chosen from at least two of the four divisions above. (12 credit hours)

First-year students must complete a first-year seminar.

KBOR GEN ED CURRICULUM

Transfer students may choose the Kansas Board of Regents curriculum if:

  • Admitted to WSU as a transfer student
  • 24 or more credit hours of college credit was completed after high school graduation

PROGRAM APPLICATION AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Fall Program deadline: April 1
  • Spring Progam deadline: November 1
  • MLT-MLS Summer Program deadline: April 1

The program starts a class of 16 every fall and every spring.

  • Admission is competitive.
  • Admission decisions are made by MLS Admissions Committee.

 

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • Admitted to, or enrolled at, Wichita State University.
  • Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Minimum letter grade of C (2.0) in all science prerequisite courses.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Essay describing rationale for pusruing a career in MLS.
  • Completion of all prerequisites and general education courses prior to starting program. NOTE: It is strongly recommended that all elective hours be complete prior to starting program.
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Overall GPA. Competitive GPA = 3.25.
  • Reference recommendation statements.
  • Evidence of knowledge of health care (volunteer or work experience).
  • Evidence of ability to lead or participate in diverse teams.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the profession.
  • Presentation of application.

 


CHP and WSU GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Earn credit for 120 cumulative hours. Elective hours may be needed.
  • Earn credit in a minimum of 60 hours at a 4-year institution. Note: The MLS professional program totals 54 credit hours. The MLT-MLS program totals 29-34 credit hours. Students transferring from a community college may need additional coursework to meet this requirement.
  • Earn credit in a minimum of 45 hours of upper-division coursework.
  • Complete all general education requirements.
  • Maintain a WSU and cumulative GPA ≥ 2.0 while in professional program.
  • At least 24 of last 30 or 50 of last 60 credit hours must be completed at WSU.

This program is for MLTs looking to complete their MLS bachelor's degree at WSU.
