The Master of Music Education (MME) at Wichita State University is designed to support practicing educators in deepening their pedagogical expertise, advancing their musicianship and strengthening their impact in the classroom. The program offers focused study across five emphasis areas — choral music, elementary music, instrumental music, special music education and voice — allowing students to tailor their graduate experience to their professional goals while engaging in rigorous, relevant coursework that reflects the evolving landscape of music education.

Making your graduate education affordable

In addition to scholarships and financial aid, more than 30 percent of full-time graduate students hold assistantships or departmental fellowships amounting to more than $4 million each year.

Admission to the program

Admission requires the completion of a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited institution. Students holding bachelor's degrees in music other than the BME must satisfy public school certification requirements to qualify for full admission. Applicants without such certification are admitted on a conditional basis pending their attainment of public school teaching credentials.

Curriculum

The MME requires completion of a minimum of 32 credit hours. Students entering all MM or MME programs will take a music theory assessment and recommended one of two entry courses. Depending on the terminal project option, students will be required to complete enough electives to reach the minimum number of credits.
