NOTES:

  • Figures are estimates given by Host University. Figures were given in host currency and converted to United States Dollars using a floating exchange rate. As of 08/07/2024 Swedish Krona (SEK) = 0.095 (USD) 
  • An obligatory student union fee is 330 SEK per semester.  
  • Accommodation expenses given by the university is an average of 6,000 SEK per month. The cost may also vary depending on whether it is fall or spring semester. A 700 SEK nonrefundable housing application fee is also included in the cost. 
  • Meals are estimated at 2,000 SEK per month.   
  • Local transportation is around 570 SEK per month. This accounts for a monthly bus ticket for one zone, with a student discount.  
  • No exact estimate was provided by the partner university, however we estimate that you should not spend over $150 for textbooks for one semester. 
  • The GeoBlue Student Insurance Plan is required for international travel. The total cost is based on the total number of days the student is abroad.  As of July 2024, it cost $1.46 per day for a maximum $100,000 coverage and $100 deductible. 150 days (5 months) will be approximately $219.  There are different coverage plans available at different prices. 
  • JIBS provides Swedish health insurance at no cost. 
  • Studying in Sweden for more than three months will require a visitor’s permit. The visa application fee is 1,500 SEK.   
  • Airfare cost was provided according to Orbitz as of July 2024 with travel dates of January 6, 2025 – June 2, 2025. This should provide a good estimate to cover the airfare expense. On average a bus from the Gothenburg airport to Jonkoping is $50 two ways, so this was added to the airfare estimate.  
  • Personal expense estimates are provided by Financial Aid for students living on the WSU campus, which will be similar during a study abroad program. 

*Tuition and Fees are based on the Resident rate for 12 undergraduate credit hours at Wichita State University. Students will pay their current tuition rate during the study abroad program based on their residency and any specific college/department requirements.
