Wichita State celebrates its continued reign as the No. 1 transfer destination in Kansas for the 12th consecutive year. This means that for the last twelve years, transfer students choose WSU more than any other university in the state to continue their education.

Kristy Pacheco shared why she chose to transfer to Wichita State and what her experience has been like since arriving in Shocker Nation. She is from Kansas City and transferred from Johnson County Community College.

“I chose to transfer to Wichita State because it’s where I felt most heard and supported, even before deciding to attend," she said.

Her admissions representatives helped make the transfer process flow smoothly and her financial aid package helped a lot with her decision. Like Kristy, all transfer students gain access to a team of dedicated transfer professionals who are well-versed in the transfer process and can point you to all the resources you need. From transfer credit estimations on the Transfer Gateway to dual advising, Wichita State makes the transfer process as simple as possible.

Additionally, Shocker Nation aims to provide competitive financial aid packages to our transfer students. Any fall 2023 transfer student who are admitted by April 1 will be automatically considered for a $4,000 to $6,000 transfer scholarship.

We’ve shared why Kristy chose to transfer to Wichita State, but you may be wondering, “What’s she up to now?” Kristy is currently majoring in elementary education. Throughout her life, she has seen the disadvantages low-income families and minorities face. As a future educator, Kristy hopes to support these students.

“I want to be an advocate for that inequality and work to ensure that all students, regardless of class or race, receive an equitable education,” she said.

Outside of the classroom, Kristy is heavily involved on campus as a PASS Mentor, Phenomenal Woman, Ambassador for Diversity & Inclusion, Transfer Guide, Honors Ambassador, Senator for the College of Applied Studies and a TRIO student.

“Wichita State has helped me grow in ways that I couldn't have even imagined...I used to doubt my place in a variety of settings, but now I know that I'm deserving of every space that I take up.”

As you can tell by Kristy’s story, transfer students thrive in Shocker Nation. Apply today to start your transfer journey so you too can grow in ways you’ve never imagined!
