I’ve been around Wichita State for about 28 years so I can own my bias, but there has never been a more exciting time to become a Shocker. I’m thrilled to share news that makes joining Shocker Nation even more accessible for future students and families. Wichita State University has officially extended our Freshmen Merit Scholarship deadline to March 1. If you haven’t applied yet, this is your moment for action while the window is still open — but it won’t be for long. And as you consider your next steps, let me tell you: Wichita State is buzzing with growth, renewal, and progress everywhere you look. Our campus and city is transforming right before our eyes, powered by major construction and renovation projects that reflect our long‑term vision for innovation, student success, and community impact.

A Campus Rising: Construction That Signals Our Future
Walking across Wichita State’s 330 acres and the greater Wichita community where we have active projects, you can feel the momentum. This year we’re poised for significant progress on multiple high‑impact facilities:
- Wichita Biomedical Campus
Scheduled to be completed in 2027, all major steel beams and structure is up for this project that will encompass nearly a half million square feet downtown and result in an investment of about $300 million for Wichita State health professions students, alongside medical students from the University of Kansas. The footprint, spirit and vibrancy of downtown Wichita will be forever boosted with the expectation that 3,000 students in medical programs will be utilizing the facility once finished. - NIAR Hub for Advanced Manufacturing Research
Nearing completion in early 2026, this new $60+ million, 170,000 square foot facility will provide students with opportunities for internships and research, alongside university personnel developing the latest in manufacturing technology. - University Stadium Transformation
The Wichita State Board of Trustees just announced a $38 million investment to launch Phase Two of the multi-phase university stadium project. The new phase will include demolition of the west grandstand and make way for new seating and features. Phase One will also continue which included widening the field for a regulation‑sized soccer pitch, installing a new nine‑lane track, and adding internal sidewalks that will connect the full stadium footprint. This phase continues through the spring semester and represents a major investment in our athletics and event infrastructure. - Wilkins Stadium Enhancements
Following the completion of the new indoor practice facility dedicated to Shocker Softball, construction will soon begin on a new team facility and operations building with completion to come in less than one year. The team has made several NCAA tournament appearances in recent history and are projected to finish in the top three of the American Conference this season. - Henrion Hall Improvements
New HVAC upgrades are in progress, ensuring improved comfort and usability for one of campus’s most creatively vibrant buildings and that will leave this historic building for arts majors with a newly operational air conditioner to make the facility more comfortable for classes, art studios and projects.
Every corner of Shocker Nation is being strengthened — from academics to athletics, from student life to research. This is not just construction. It’s transformation. It’s the physical expression of Wichita State’s vision for the next decade and beyond.
