Major
Chemistry / Biochemistry: Field Major

Why I chose my major
I chose to major in Chemistry and Biochemistry after a great experience in high school with my chemistry and biology classes. I have always been interested in medicine and drawn to pursue a career as a physician, so my major will also set me up for success when I enter medical school! I enjoy the flexibility of my major. As a field major, I have required credits for the Chemistry department and for my college, but about 25 of my major credits are electives of my choice, which can come from either the Chemistry department or the Biology department. This has allowed me to explore topics of my interest through courses I may not have typically taken if I had chosen a different major.

Involvement
I am involved in Student Ambassador Society (SAS), I am Secretary of the Premedical Student Association (PSA), Vice President of the Mortar Board Honor Society, Lead in Intramurals for the Campus Sports and Recreation department, and recipient of the K-INBRE Research Grant and currently researching on campus!

Why I chose Wichita State
I chose WSU for many reasons including its smaller campus community feel, Wichita is more than a college town and has lots to explore and experience beyond campus, and that it is about 3 hours from home for me, a good distance to make a weekend trip home if needed but enough space to keep me from going back all the time. WSU also offers a multitude of scholarships, and I have been fortunate to apply to and receive several that have greatly helped with the cost of college for me.

Favorite thing about WSU
I like that Wichita State is large enough of a college to offer many opportunities that fulfill various interests among the students it attracts, yet it is small enough to allow students to find and build a community among their peers and to make a difference in the community of Wichita and Kansas while pursuing their education and building a future for themselves.
