Name
Macie Schroeder
Year at WSU
Senior
Hometown
Wichita, KS
Major
Computer Science and Audio Production
Why I chose my major
I chose to major in Computer Science because I have been interested in computers since
I was a kid. I loved playing games and the Internet and that led to me being more
curious about how those things worked. In high school, I started taking programming
classes, and since I enjoyed them a lot I decided to pursue it in college too. As
for Audio Production, I always had an interest in tech but I also loved art and felt
driven to pursue a creative (specifically musical) field. At Wichita State I decided
I wanted to give some more artistic classes a try, and combining my interests in tech
and music, I landed on the audio program at Shocker Studios. I added Audio Production
as a certificate and found I enjoyed the classes so much that I added it on as a second
major. I love problem-solving and I love getting to create things. With both my majors,
I get to do both in different ways!
Involvement
Audio Engineering Society, Student Ambassador Society, and Ennovar
Why I chose Wichita State
I chose Wichita State because it was close to home and also had a wide variety of
programs to choose from. I came in as an undecided major because I couldn't decide
what path I most wanted to pursue at first. Wichita State had a lot of options in
terms of exploring different types of careers and allowed me to discern which things
I'm truly passionate about!
Favorite thing about WSU
I love the abundance of applied learning opportunities at Wichita State. Through Ennovar
(a Wichita State organization), I'm currently working at Textron Aviation as a Web
Developer, which has allowed me to gain real-world experience in my field of interest.
I have also found that within the School of Digital Arts, frequent collaboration with
peers and portfolio building is encouraged (and even required) for success. These
things have helped me feel prepared for a future career in a way that other colleges
may not have.
