Shaffer’s 1979 masterpiece Amadeus dramatizes the rivalry between the boy-genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his contemporary, Court Composer Antonio Salieri. Told through Salieri’s eyes as the self-proclaimed “Patron Saint of Mediocrities,” the play unfolds as a gripping drama with elements of a thriller. Salieri’s jealousy of Mozart’s brilliance drives him into a tortured, obsessive struggle against both his rival and the God who chose to bestow genius on another.
Performances run Oct. 10–19 at various times. Tickets are available through ICT Rep’s website.
