Building Futures: Printing Women examines the history of print as a space of women's labor and agency. It considers what becomes visible when we approach the history of print through periodicals and newspapers led, owned, or circulated by women.

The exhibition is part of an applied learning program in graphic design funded through the Kansas Applied Learning initiative. The project extends graphic design practice into interdisciplinary research by engaging students in archival investigation, historical analysis, independent publishing, and exhibition design.

Three, research-based case studies across a range of time periods, geographies, and political contexts were assembled including: Women's Antifascist Front (AFŽ) of Yugoslavia, the British Women's Land Army, and a series of publications from the United States such as The Voice of IndustryThe UnaThe Woman's Advocate, and others.

The exhibition presents work developed by students and faculty: Megan Ryan, Shelby DuVall, and Dr. Irma Puškarević.
