From the artist
Honey is a bear living in a modern world of turmoil they serve as an alter ego, and a comedic, nostalgic coping mechanism. This exhibition addressed childhood trauma that is complicated for the artist and can be for the audience. A cartoon style makes the bark of these memories have less bite and suggests a sweetness to the recollection. Cartoons subvert the expectations of childhood innocence while also exposing the fragility and youth that accompany it in reality. The child wishes that all those memories could be fixed, but that day will never come. Instead, one is left to address and overcome the habits that gave rise to them.

About the artist
Aly Horn is a non-binary artist with an emphatic adoration of bears, which are prevalent in their work. Their persona, Honey, is the star of the work. They are originally from southeastern North Carolina and earned their BA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. They are currently based in Wichita, Kansas, and completing their MFA at Wichita State University.

This exhibition is a requirement of the MFA in Studio Art at Wichita State University.
