Bio

Hannah Melendez serves as the Food Insecurity and Sustainability Director for the 69th Session of the Student Government Association. Director Melendez joined SGA because she was drawn to the values of the Island-Raju Administration and trusted that they would strive for genuine change. This is Director Melendez's first time serving in this capacity for the Student Government Association, and even in the short time she as witnessed powerful discussions and genuine proposals from student leaders that will improve the experience of Wichita State students. Being a part of such a passionate group of leaders has been incredibly rewarding and motivating as she continues navigating this new role. She is constantly being provided with opportunities to organize events, engage with campus leaders, and create a positive impact on campus. She is sincerely grateful for the responsibility of this role and is eager to continue working to enrich the University. 

Goal

Director Melendez's goals for the semester are to:

  • Increase awareness of resources available on campus to alleviate food insecurity.
  • Coordinate events to involve more students with the Community Garden
  • Improve outreach to students utilizing places like the Kiah Duggins Shocker Support Locker to ensure they are aware of the full capacity of resources.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for students to ask for assistants through financial insecurities and other concerns they may face.
