Who Can Participate in Veteran Student Support Services?

Wichita State University's Veteran Student Support Services (VSSS) program helps eligible military-affiliated students navigate college, strengthen their academic skills, and work toward graduation. As a federally funded TRIO Student Support Services program, VSSS follows eligibility requirements established by the U.S. Department of Education.

To qualify for VSSS, students must meet all of the following federal requirements:

1. Citizenship or Residency Requirements

Students must be a U.S. citizen or national, or meet the residency requirements for federal student financial assistance.

2. Enrollment at Wichita State University

Students must be enrolled at Wichita State University or accepted for enrollment for the next academic term.

3. Demonstrated Need for Academic Support

Students must have a need for academic support, as determined by the VSSS program, to successfully pursue their postsecondary education.

4. Meet at Least One of the Following Eligibility Categories

Students must meet at least one of these criteria:

  • First-Generation College Student: A student whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) did not complete a bachelor's degree. Federal program definitions and specific family circumstances are used to determine eligibility.

  • Low-Income Student: A student who meets the U.S. Department of Education's applicable federal income guidelines.

  • Student with a Disability: A student with a documented disability who meets the program's eligibility criteria.

Meeting one or more of these categories does not automatically guarantee acceptance into VSSS. All applicants must also meet the other federal eligibility requirements and complete the program's eligibility review.
