Committees & Conveners

The First Generation Coordinating Council (FGCC) is looking for willing volunteers to serve on one of its five sub-committees. Each subcommittee is responsible for meeting annual goals and producing efforts that support the university strategic plan and strategic enrollment management plan.

FGCC Subcommitee Frequently Asked Questions

The following FAQ's were developed to assist those interested in joining an FGCC subcommittee.

How often do they subcommittees meet?

They will meet once a month, based on the work at the time. For example, the marketing committee may meet once a week when leading up to the first-gen week (annual events built around Nov. 8).

What do the different committees do? What capacity do they serve?

The subcommittees support the FGCC committee representative to meet the goals of the council. In layman’s terms they are the worker bees, their input and commitment implement the work across campus.

Each committee has a set goals that are set at the beginning of each academic year.

MARKETING: Collaborate on first-gen activities, input on the constellation of support, plan and implement first-gen week, support and partner with FGSO. TBD, Convener
DATA & ASSESSMENT: Data review of the student profile, a look at outcomes, retention, time to complete and graduation rates of first-gen. Jason Bosch, Convener
FACULTY & STAFF ENGAGEMENT: Looking at professional development & support and elevation of the first-gen affinity group. Dr. Gery Markova, Convener
FIRST-GEN AFFINITY GROUP: Share in the support of professional development opportunities, faculty & staff book reads and social/mentoring activities amongst Shocker faculty & staff. Dr. Bobby Berry, Convener

Is there a duration / limited term for serving as a subcommittee member?

After the first year of service subcommittee members are asked if they would like to renew their commitment, move to another group membership, or depart.

What are the expectations / standards for members?

A desire to elevate first gen, share your ideas and support the work of the First Gen Coordinating Council (FGCC).
