2023 Bender of Twigs

Kim Sandlin is the epitome of what it means to be Shocker proud. She began working for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, coordinating new student orientation and programs. During her tenure at Wichita State University, she has served in various roles with the most recent being the Director of Student Success. Kim has received numerous accolades and awards regarding her passion in serving students, faculty, staff, and families.

As an alumna of Wichita State University, she works extremely hard to engage with the entire campus community in creating a welcoming atmosphere for all to be seen, heard, and supported. I recall when I first started working on campus, I asked who I should meet with to better understand the campus culture and processes, and Kim’s name was amongst the first. In my initial meeting with her, I vastly recognized that she was someone who was well organized, passionate, and energized in all that she did. As we both progressed in our careers over the years, I gained not only a confidential and supportive colleague, but a lifelong friend and Shocker sister.

If one were to walk around campus and mention her name, students, faculty, and staff alike light up and smile. She has earned the respect and admiration of many and is the example of what it means to be a Shocker! Passionate, creative, innovative, selfless, and compassionate about those she serves. Kim sees people; truly sees them. She takes time to meet students where they are at and helps get them to where they need to be. She will pause and give her undivided attention to a topic, issue or challenge and will find ways to collaborate to help enhance the process for all involved. They are motivated and positively engaged, serve as a true inspiration.

Kim’s commitment to the WSU campus community is unmatched. She understands the importance of action and how her contributions are making a difference for the greater good. They are a lifelong learner continuously growing and developing best practices to enhance student success. They bring a positive high energy and a personal touch. As I think back over our years together, her passion and kindness are what I appreciate the most. She is the peanut butter to my jelly.

Wichita State University is a better place because of people like Kim. Thank you for being the example of commitment and perseverance and for your invaluable contributions to the success of our students and institution. Thank you for being you and for inspiring us all in the process. Congratulations!
