Passage Scholars

Passage Scholars

The Passage Scholars program is designed to provide additional aid that will help students reduce the number of hours they work each semester and provide an opportunity to engage fully in a variety of on-campus activities and organizations.

This is a special award for at least ten first-generation students with financial need. In addition, recipients of this scholars program will be required to be actively engaged and participate in Passage 2 Success, a week-long retreat for incoming freshmen from diverse backgrounds to help in their transition to Wichita State University. Awards are dispersed in the amounts ranging from $2,000-$5,000 per academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to compete, you must:

  • Be an admitted student of Wichita State University (otherwise, be a high school graduate and submit application materials to Wichita State University)
  • Submit the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)
  • Students who are ineligible to complete a FAFSA will be contacted to provide a separate statement describing their financial need
  • Be a registered participant in Passage 2 Success, while actively participating and engaging in the program

From a Passage Scholar

As an Overland Park resident, coming to Wichita State University was definitely a change. I had to learn to acclimate myself to a whole new city. While I was attending Passage 2 Success, I was able to have a better forecast of my collegiate journey.

This program affected me in many ways, as I received a scholarship from attending the program, networking with faculty and staff, and utilizing more resources on campus. As to this very day, I still communicate with other students on campus who attended Passage 2 Success with me.
