Panhellenic Primary Recruitment
Primary Recruitment is the official recruitment process through which college women are able to consider joining a Panhellenic sorority and when the Panhellenic sororities on our campus choose their new sisters. Each woman who goes through recruitment will have the opportunity to meet and converse with members from all five of the Panhellenic sororities at Wichita State, learning their individual chapter values, as well as learning about the Panhellenic Community and meeting new people.
By the end of our recruitment process, it is our sincere hope that you will find a sorority home that will help you grow into the best version of yourself. The memories you can make as a Panhellenic woman can be memories that you will cherish for your entire life. These can be the women who will be by your side through the good and the bad. Follow us on Instagram @wichitastatePC for more information about our chapters and the Primary Recruitment process!

Continuous Opening Bidding (COB) happens after Primary Recruitment. Depending on current membership numbers certain chapters will be eligible to participate in COB and actively recruit members into their chapters. Each chapter’s COB process is different, but on average they consists of dates or events where you get to know members in the house. COB can be more flexible and personable compared to the Primary Recruitment process.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to malaree.hood@wichita.edu. We want to ensure that you have all of the information that you need to become a part of our community!

Yes, there is a registration fee of $50. This fee helps to cover the cost of technology, your bid day t-shirt, 1-2 meals throughout the process, as well as general expenses to put on a large-scale recruitment that you can enjoy! You will pay online at the time of registration.
After you resigter, you will be assigned a Recruitment Counselor, who will help guide you through recruitment! A Recruitment Counselor (RC) is an affiliated woman from one of our five Panhellenic sororities who believes so strongly in the Panhellenic experience that she wants to help you join our community, regardless of the organization you belong to in the end! Your RC will reach out to you via email or phone to welcome you to the experience and from there, you will be placed into a small group with other women participating in Primary Recruitment too! Your Recruitment Counselor will be your go-to for questions all summer and throughout the Primary Recruitment experience. She will be able to give you all the information that you need and get you where you need to go!
Tip: Ask your Recruitment Counselor why she went Greek!
*Please note that all end times reflect the maximum amount of time the event may take. It is possible that you may end each night earlier than what is described above. If you have specific conflicts, please reach out to malaree.hood@wichita.edu so that we can do our best to accommodate them!
All nights of recruitment are mandatory so that the sororities have every opportunity to get to know you. If you have class, illness or a family emergency, you will need to notify your Recruitment Counselor, the Vice President of Recruitment (wsu.sorority.recruitment@gmail.com), and malaree.hood@wichita.edu immediately so that we can notify the chapters of your absence.
Per Fraternity and Sorority Life policies, you must be an enrolled student at Wichita State University (excluding WSU Tech). You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater. Your GPA will be confirmed by the Panhellenic Advisor via the information on file with Wichita State University.
The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) is the umbrella organization for 26 (inter)national women's sororities throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 1902, the NPC is the oldest and largest women's membership organization, representing more than 4 million women at over 650 college/university campuses and 4,600 local alumnae chapters in the United States and Canada. Each year, NPC sororities donate more than $5 million to philanthropic and charitable causes, donate over $2 million worth of scholarships to women, and volunteer over 500,000 hours of service to their communities.
We are home to five out of the 26 sororities within the NPC: Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Sisterhood: The most attractive quality of Panhellenic membership is the sisterhood that you can experience. Women who are brought together because of similar interests and a similar respect and appreciation for the values of their organization. These are the women that you will still be friends with when you are 60 years old. The women who will stand by your side through the good and the bad that life throws at you.
Networking: The sisterhoods of our Panhellenic sororities do not just stay in Wichita. Their membership expands across the country, and across the world. You are all joined together by membership in a sorority. You will have the potential to form connections with sisters and with women across the nation. Panhellenic sororities boast members who are Congresswomen, CEO's of major companies, authors, actresses, activists, philanthropists, news anchors, and so much more.
Service: Our Panhellenic sorority members donate countless hours of their time to benefitting their community. With service, you have the opportunity to tailor your time to a cause you are passionate about. Many of our Greek organizations require their members to obtain a specific amount of service hours per semester. The beauty of this is that you can find a cause that YOU are passionate about and you can be given an opportunity to make a difference. Whether it is building with Habitat for Humanity, interacting with the visually-impaired at Envision, or mentoring children at the Boys and Girls Club; their are countless opportunities to give back.
Philanthropy: Each of our Panhellenic sororities have causes that they support and that they donate funds towards. This is not just writing a check; this is truly making a difference. These are organizations and non-profits that are close to the hearts of not only our chapters, but chapters across the country.
Academic Support: Each sorority has a system in place to support members academically. The council promotes academic excellence through hosting study nights. ach chapter has certain scholarships that are only available to their members. In addition, most National Offices offer additional scholarships to members. Wichita State University offers a handful of scholarships that are only available to Greek students.
Check out the finance pages of the recruitment booklet for information about the cost of each chapter. Be aware that your first semester in a Panhellenic will always be the most expensive as it includes a number of one time costs for every organization. After your first semester of membership*, the costs of membership will decrease and will remain more consistent throughout the remainder of your time in the chapter*.
Two of our chapters offer the option for a limited number of women to live-in the chapter facility* at an additional cost.
*These estimates are based of expenses incurred during the 2022-2023 academic year and are subject to change.
Alpha Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma currently offer the option for a limited number of women to live-in at their chapter facilities, but this is not a requirement of membership for either chapter. The chapter facilitiies for Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, and Gamma Phi Beta serve as lodges that are open to members at all times for meetings, studying, etc. but do not offer the ability to live-in.
Our recruitment process is a mutual selection process. This means that as you are narrowing down which of the sororities feel most like home, the chapters are also considering who most closely embodies their values. There is a home in our Panhellenic community for every woman that is open to the possibility of allowing the chapter she is meant to belong to find her. It is all about trusting the process!
With our recruitment process being values based, we do not have a dress code. There is a Pinterest board for you to get inspiration from, but do not feel obligated to dress a certain way! https://pin.it/5LqOKkQ
The Wichita State Community offers other opportunities to join sororities on campus outside of Panhellenic too! Click here to complete an interest form and your contact infomation will be shared with the organizations you are interested in.

The Greek community at Wichita State is nothing like the movies or stereotypes. We're also not like the communities you see at other universities. Our community has approximately 700 members across 26 member organization and we wouldn't want it any other way! Our members build strong connections across councils and chapters and because of our smaller size, we are a close knit family.
