Chief Fritz is coordinating meetings with the cabinet while filing Senate bills
Director Arens returned from being out of office, is overseeing elections with nine candidates, is finalizing an Executive Order for the Food Insecurity Director, and is tracking multiple Senate reads and appointments.
Director Xiong is is working on headshots, Food for Fines, and presentations.
Director Gracia-Alvarez is planning events like Cider & Connections and Pumpkins & Policy, collaborating with the Shocker Vote Coalition, and seeking more partnerships.
Director Raju met with GoAuntFlo, is ordering menstrual products, and is planning Social Safety Week with flu clinics and collaborations.
Director Khan is running RSO training workshops, planning a beneficiary event, and preparing for the RSO Summit.
Director Safdar is coordinating with OIE on airport pickups, developing career opportunities and leadership training for international students, collaborating with other directors, and planning InterFEST for Nov. 5.
Director Murphy is preparing for Shocker Madness (Oct. 4) and a Nov. 4 pregame tailgate, coordinating food and DJ bookings, and meeting with Athletics.
Director Olalde-Taylor is working with WSU Dining on a teaching kitchen, housing on donation drives, and vendors for the SGA Market.
Director Guthrie is planning an Oct. 16 soft skills workshop with SCA, exploring spring mock interviews, and additional professional development events.
Advocate Island is handling nine active student cases, coordinating ADA feedback efforts, building partnerships with student services, and researching higher education issues in Kansas.
Legislative Branch Report
The Legislative Branch consists of the Student Senate, which establishes policies through legislation and annually approves the allocation more than $9.5 million in student fees. The Senate is comprised of 52 Senate seats, each of which represents specified portions of the Student Body, including academic colleges and certain demographics such as out of state and underserved senators. The Student Senate holds a meeting every Wednesday during the academic year at 7:30 p.m in the Santa Fe Room of the Rhatigan Student Center unless notified otherwise. These meetings are open to the public and are livestreamed and recorded and posted to our YouTube Channel. Below, you will find summaries regarding all Senate Legislation passed this Session and reports from each Senate Committee.

Legislation Summary
SB-68-110: This Act appoints Senator Rene Luna as the Pro-Temp of the Academic Affairs Committee. Pro-Temps record meeting minutes, assist the Chairperson in conducting committee meetings, and lead committee meetings in the absence of the Chairperson.
SB-68-111: This Act removes Senator Guillermo Argumedo from the Diversity, Empowerment, and Inclusion Committee and appoints Senator Argumedo to the Student Services Committee.
SB-68-108: Upon Review, this Act was approved by the Government Oversight Committee with a recommendation to pass. This Act made amendments to the Freshman Leadership Council within SGA Bylaws and was approved by the Senate in its second and final read.
SB-68-112: This Act appoints Guillermo Argumedo Lopez as International Commissioner on the Association’s Finance Commission.
SB-68-113: This Act approves funding from the Special Projects Account for the Student Legal Services Program in the amount of $200,000. The Student Legal Services Program is an initiative to provide fee-paying students with access to free legal advice and services on campus. Authorizing this funding, which will go towards the hiring of a Director/Managing Attorney for the Student Legal Services Office, is the first step in the process of bringing this initiative to life. Once a Director/Managing Attorney is hired, more legislation will be created to outline the policies and operation of the Student Legal Services Program.
SB-68-114: This Act appoints Senator AJ Haynes to serve as Pro-Temp of the Diversity, Empowerment, and Inclusion Committee. Pro-Temps record meeting minutes, assist the Chairperson in conducting committee meetings, and lead committee meetings in the absence of the Chairperson.
SB-68-115: This Act amends the bylaws of the Menstrual Product Advisory Board to remove outdated language. When the Board was created, it included two seats for representatives from the FOCUS recognized student organization. This group is no longer a recognized student organization or active within the WSU campus.

Standing Senate Committees
The Legislative Branch has four Standing Committees of the Senate:
- Government Oversight
- Academic Affairs
- Student Services
- Diversity, Empowerment, and Inclusion
Each Standing Senate Committee shall research, report, and make recommendations to the Senate regarding action related to their respective areas of responsibility and undertake other efforts as decided by the Senate.
Senate Committees meet at 5:30 P.M. every Wednesday unless otherwise arranged by their respective Chairperson.

The Government Oversight Committee meets in Smoky Hills Room, RSC 258.
The Government Oversight Committee remains committed to reviewing, updating, and clarifying the policies that guide our student government—ensuring structure, compliance, and support for all members of SGA. Over the past two weeks, the committee has continued work on updating the SGA bylaws to improve clarity and effectiveness. As part of these efforts, the committee approved the recommendation for edits to the Freshmen Leadership Council. Additionally, the committee is collaborating with the Student Services Committee on updates to the bylaws for the Graduate Student Council.
The Student Services Committee meets in the Meeker Room, RSC 238.

The majority of Chairperson Hansen’s recent work has focused on preparing for upcoming committee meetings, as several initiatives are planned for accomplishment this Session. Scheduling monthly one-on-ones with committee members, cabinet counterparts, and agency presidents is also underway.
Additionally, the first Accessibility and Disability Pride Taskforce meeting was held on September 8th, providing an opportunity for member introductions and outlining the mission for this session. Senator Miller has also been hard at work creating a resolution regarding the withholding of TRIO grant award notifications. Senator Hatch is also working on reintroducing the idea of additional security cameras on campus.

With the ISU elections postponed, Chairperson Peng will be looking more closely onto their bylaws and constitutions but other than that, she has been attending the agencies cabinet meetings on a bi-weekly basis to ensure that our agencies continually updated.

Chairperson Kasirosafar attended the Advising Council meeting on September 10th to review student enrollment trends and course demand. Nursing remains the most requested major, followed by LAS majors, Aerospace, and Media Arts, which has grown significantly since 2023. While 72% of students still prefer in-person courses, online offerings particularly in LAS are filling quickly and creating capacity challenges. The Council also discussed course scheduling gaps, TRIO’s ongoing grant renewal, and early testing of the Navigate planning tool, which advisors noted still needs adjustments.
