Savaiano began his career at the Universty of Wichita in 1946 and became head of the Spanish department in 1947. In the 1960s, he helped found the WSU Summer Program in Puebla, Mexico. This conference brought together mental health consumers across Kansas for three days of workshops and recovery. The Center for Community Support and Research staff was on hand at the conference conducting research and offering help as needed.
