New Student Wellness Center open on campus

As of Jan. 6, Wichita State students have access to physical and mental health services all in one place. Located in the new Steve Clark YMCA building at Mike Oatman Drive and Mid-Campus Drive, Student Health Services and Counseling and Prevention Services will now share an office known as the Student Wellness Center.

Both SHS and CAPS are open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and offer discounted services for currently enrolled students. Students can call 316-978-4SWC (4792) with questions or to schedule an appointment.

Student Health Services provides low-cost, confidential services ranging from routine and preventative care to managing acute illnesses and minor injuries. Detailed information about all services provided can be found at wichita.edu/studenthealth.

Outpatient primary care for the specific needs and concerns of college students
  • Immediate and follow-up care for minor injuries and assistance with referrals to off-campus specialists

  • Gynecological services including cancer screenings, pregnancy testing, birth control options and colonoscopies

  • Prescribing and management of psychotropic prescription services for students in partnership with CAPS

  • Transgender health care and hormone replacement services

  • Management of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) prescription services for HIV prevention

  • Physical exams and immunization review for program requirements

 Free health screenings/testing for students during the academic year
  •  Basic vision screening
  • Dental screening

  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI)

  • HIV testing

  •  Onsite laboratory licensed to perform testing on campus and collection of blood and other lab samples
  • Onsite licensed institutional pharmacy to provide low-cost prescription medications for students seen at Student Health

  • A variety of adult immunizations for students including the seasonal influenza vaccine

  • Travel health visits for students, faculty and staff

  • Health promotion and education activities for students and the campus community

  • Online portal where students can schedule appointments and talk securely with health care staff located at studenthealth.wichita.edu.

Counseling and Prevention Services provides confidential, affordable mental health treatment, training and prevention to support WSU community wellness. Detailed information about all services provided can be found at wichita.edu/caps.

Ongoing care for student mental wellness
  • Psychological, ADHD and learning disability assessments

  • Support to the university, departments, faculty and staff with mental health consultation and community referral assistance

  • Confidential mental health services for anxiety, depression, life stress, etc.

  • Individual, couples and group counseling provided by licensed mental health providers

  • Psychiatric medication services for students in partnership with SHS and a consulting psychiatrist
