A strong volleyball program brought Katie Galligan to Wichita State from her home in Nebraska. She earned 2025 Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators with a 3.92 grade-point average while majoring in Health Sciences. Galligan's energy and skills in the back row helped the Shockers win a conference title and play in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
NICU nurse.
What made you choose Wichita State University?
The culture surrounding volleyball.
How did scholarships benefit you during your time at Wichita State?
I earned a volleyball scholarship. It allowed me to not worry about financial situations, and use my athletic abilities to further pursue my athletic career.
What applied learning experiences did you participate in during your time here?
My applied learning portfolio through the health sciences degree allowed for multiple volunteer opportunities and community involvement events.
What advice would you give other Wichita State students?
- Pray.
- Leave places and people better than you found them.
- Never lose your sense of humor.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will be taking my fifth year to play beach volleyball at Palm Beach Atlantic University while pursuing my MBA.
