For the 15th consecutive year, more community college students chose Wichita State University to complete their academic goals than any other university in Kansas.
According to the Kansas Board of Regents, 1,475 students transferred to Wichita State from Kansas community colleges, technical colleges and other four-year institutions in 2025, continuing a streak that began in 2011.
“Being Kansas’ top transfer destination for 15 consecutive years is an honor we don’t take for granted. Transfer students come to our campus with a clear sense of purpose and a strong commitment to completing their degree and advancing their careers,” said Bobby Gandu, associate vice provost for strategic enrollment initiatives and director of undergraduate admissions.
The milestone underscores Wichita State’s continued focus on creating accessible pathways for students seeking to build on previous college coursework and earn a four-year degree.
“We’re proud that so many students have trusted Wichita State as the place where they can build on their previous college experience and gain meaningful applied learning experiences through the state’s most affordable research university,” Gandu said.
KBOR data show Wichita State enrolled more transfer students than any other Kansas public university when comparing transfers among state universities.
Wichita State received the most transfers from Butler Community College with 327 students. Other top transfer partner institutions are WSU Tech with 170 students, Hutchinson Community College with 130 and Cowley Community College with 100 students.
“Students choose Wichita State because they can see a clear path from transfer to graduation to career success,” Gandu said. “Our transfer-friendly policies, strong advising and close collaboration with partner institutions help make that path as smooth as possible.”
Wichita State's partnerships with community colleges and technical colleges across Kansas help students transfer credits efficiently and continue progressing toward their educational and career goals. Through transfer pathways and articulation agreements, students can plan their route to a bachelor's degree before they arrive on campus.
Wichita State's commitment to transfer student success was also recently recognized nationally. The university was named to Phi Theta Kappa's 2026 Transfer Honor Roll for the ninth year in a row, which recognizes colleges and universities that create and support strong pathways for community college transfer students.
The PTK Honor Roll evaluates how well institutions support transfer students from admission through graduation. Colleges are assessed across five dimensions shown to influence transfer success:
- Transfer student success outcomes
- Credit mobility and degree applicability
- Financial support for transfer students
- Recruitment and admissions practices
- Campus engagement and support for transfer students
Wichita State enrolls more than 18,000 students on its main campus and is Kansas' only urban public research university. The university continues to expand opportunities for transfer students through initiatives focused on access, affordability and student success.
