May 01, 2024 — Sophie Martins chose Wichita State University for the opportunities she saw at the university, which turned out for her as she was elected as the student body vice president at Wichita State during the 2023-24 academic year, joined to Legal Education Accelerated Degree that will propel her into law school and is now graduating with her bachelor’s degree.

May 1, 2024 — Iris Okere joined Wichita State University for its affordability and distance to her home in Texas. Here, she found WSU to be a place full of opportunities for her, including a chance grow her own confidence and independence through the challenges she faced, and in her final year, she was elected to the position of student body president in the Student Government Association.

June 30, 2023 — A group of graduate students from Wichita State University’s Department of History is chronicling the history of the LGBTQ community in Wichita.

April 25, 2023 - John Kirk returned to college at Wichita State University to study vocal music and dive into activities. He served as Student Body President and came to appreciate the caring atmosphere at Wichita State. John is one of more than 1,500 students eligible for spring 2023 graduation. March 16, 2023 - Kyan Caudillo is a biology major at Wichita State University and minoring chemistry. His experience working at WSU’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory will help him as he studies and prepares to work in the medical field.

Feb. 24, 2023 - The Dockum Drug Store sit-in of 1958 attracted new attention in 2021 during Black History Month, in part thanks to NBC’s “Today” and Wichita native Sheinelle Jones. Several University of Wichita students participated in the sit-in, which is increasingly recognized as a landmark event in the Civil Rights Movement. NBC’s “Today” featured the events in a 2021 broadcast.

Dec. 12, 2022 — Just in time for the surge of respiratory illnesses flooding the state, Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab has announced it will extend free RSV, influenza and COVID (RIC) testing through March 31, 2023.

Oct. 14, 2022 - Savannah Paschal, a senior Spanish education major at Wichita State, wrote a proposal that helped Alce su voz earn a $75,000 Building Power and Equity Partnership grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. The grant will support civic engagement and the group’s work toward health equity for Spanish speakers and speakers of indigenous languages in Kansas.

Aug. 26, 2022 — Wichita State’s Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentations program (NSF MRI) for a 500 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer.

Aug. 19, 2022 - With initiatives such as roundtable discussions, early voting and voter registration drives, Wichita State University earned a Highly Established Action Plan Seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. Wichita State is one of 82 colleges and universities recognized for its commitment to increasing nonpartisan democratic engagement in 2022.

June 28, 2022 — Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing to the public through December 2022.

June 20, 2022 — Wichita State's Dr. Mythili Menon was recently awarded $296,470 as part of the National Science Foundation’s EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) program to study how refugees respond to phishing and vishing attempts. EAGER offers exploratory funding for high-risk, high-reward research that investigates the nation’s pressing problems.

May 26, 2022 — An interdisciplinary team from Wichita State University will participate in a $24 million state initiative to help rural and urban communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters.

April 26, 2022 — The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University is helping Butler Community College students interested in furthering their business education with $40,000 in scholarships. These scholarships will help amplify and activate the coordinated “2+2” program between the two schools where Butler students can receive their associates degree and pursue a business degree at WSU.

March 24, 2022 — A new initiative by Wichita State’s Public Policy Management Center and Sedgwick County is helping connect community members to resources that could help with economic recovery efforts. Recovery Connect focuses on helping people, small businesses and non-profits find existing resources in the community.
