Our mission in FARE is to see faculty supported, successful, and satisfied in their roles. FARE was launched at WSU during the 2024-2025 school year as the first
office dedicated exclusively to faculty success. While our programming is evolving
as we better understand and adapt to the needs of faculty, below are some examples
of the significant ways that FARE has already been making an impact at WSU.
Faculty Exchange Workshops
Three times per semester, FARE hosts workshops with campus partners on key skills
for faculty and creates opportunities for research networking among faculty. The Spring
2025 Faculty Exchanges catalyzed the formation of multiple new research and mutual
mentoring collaborations, serving 41 faculty through two events.
Job satisfaction isn't merely about research, teaching, and pay; it's also about feeling
a sense of belonging, connection, and support. FSN events include coffee hours for
connecting with colleagues and facilitated discussions about navigating the challenges
we face as faculty, led by Community Psychology Professor Rhonda Lewis.
In 2025, FARE offered grants to faculty to form mutual mentoring groups for the purpose of strengthening their research, teaching, or another element of their
professions. We awarded six grants following proposals submitted that involved 54
faculty.
Research & Writing Intensives
We're better in community. Or maybe sometimes it's easier to tackle projects with
the positive peer pressure of your colleagues being productive around you! In January,
March, and May, FARE hosts a 3-day writing intensive to create space for faculty to
focus on their writing goals, and a group meets weekly through the summer. In 2025,
29 faculty took advantage of writing intensives with FARE.
Faculty Research Collaborative
Research is increasingly an interdisciplinary endeavor, but it can be hard to meet
collaborators in other fields. Coming in Fall 2025, we are launching a monthly group
focused on supporting research networking across departments. Come hear 3-minute pitches
about what colleagues are working on and lend your disciplinary lens to the conversation.
It's not easy being new. Beginning in Fall 2025, FARE is working with campus partners
to make the transition to WSU easier for new faculty. Each month through the year,
we will meet for check-ins and workshops on key skills and knowledge related to research,
teaching, and advancement at WSU.
