Cybersecurity Student Involvement

For students in the cybersecurity program, getting involved can take many forms. You might join a student organization, participate in competitions and events, or volunteer at outreach activities, creating plenty of opportunities to engage.

Participate in Competitions and Events

Capture The Wu (CTW)

Capture the Wu (CTW), our 48-hour, Jeopardy-style Capture the Flag (CTF), helps two-year or junior college students experience a CTF tournament before going to a national competition. Participating in CTF events, including this one, are fantastic on a resume, which can also be used later for grant proposals, salary raise requests and more. Also, future employers, graduate schools and scholarship committees are impressed. We look forward for the next CTW and hope to see more students there!

National Cyber League

Twice a year, more than 10,000 students from over 500 colleges and high schools participate in Cyber Skyline's National Cyber League (NCL) tournaments, competing in individual and team Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges. These events provide excellent opportunities for students to test their cybersecurity skills in real-world scenarios, solve offensive and defensive puzzles, and network within the field.

Our students typically place in the top 20 or higher in the nation. Happy hacking to our students competing this semester. Go Shox!

Help With an Outreach Event

The School of Computing and the Hub regularly host cybersecurity boot camps that focus on open source intelligence. Students from various local middle and high schools attend and participate in the camp sessions, and our students often volunteer to help with the bootcamps.
