Financial Assistance for Students

Currently more than 50 percent of our students receive some type of financial support, such as scholarships, federally guaranteed grants and loans, and student employment in the work-study program. Part-time employment is also readily available in the Wichita area. Review the below resources to learn more about financial assistant options.

Students planning to enter school in the fall semester should apply for financial assistance before November 1 to receive full consideration. Since federal grant and loan programs require several months for processing, application to these programs should begin shortly after the first of the calendar year.

Engineering Scholarships

In addition, the College of Engineering at Wichita State provides financial aid to qualified engineering students. For example, the Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE) competitions provides scholarships to incoming freshman.

Cooperative Education & Work Based Learning

The Cooperative Education Program is available to engineering students with a 2.75/4.00 grade point average and 24 or more hours of university credit. "Co-op" students are able to complement their classroom education with engineering work experience. Mechanical Engineering students co- op with companies located in Wichita and across the Midwest. Both parallel (part-time work and part-time schooling) and alternate (full-time work one semester and full-time schooling the next) programs are available. Companies that hire WSU mechanical engineering co-op students include: Lear Jet, Cessna Aircraft, Boeing, E-Systems, NASA-Johnson Space Center, J.I. Case Company, and NCR Corporation.
