Introduction to Technology & Innovation is a first-year seminar (FYS) and general education course in the College of Engineering that uses hands-on activities and in-lab training in the Project Innovation Hub to guide first year students through the design thinking process in order to develop innovative and creative problem-solving skills.

Goals

Students demonstrate skills and knowledge gained throughout the course by:

  • working in a multidisciplinary team

  • interviewing customers to build empathy and identify problems

  • building a prototype of their solution

  • assessing economic and societal impact, and

  • delivering their big idea venture through an elevator pitch.
