2016 Victor Murdock Scholarship Application

The Victor Murdock Scholarship is for an entering college freshman who intends to major in journalism at Wichita State University. It pays $1,250 per year for each of the four years the student remains in school at WSU, continues in journalism and maintains at least a 2.50 GPA. The recipient is chosen on the basis of demonstrated writing ability, experience creating media, including video, websites and photos, recommendations of high school teachers, and an on-campus interview.

To apply, fill out the form below. Once submitted, you also will need to submit the following:

  1. A résumé, including all work on newspapers, yearbooks and other media.
  2. A letter of interest (no longer than 300 words) telling us a little bit about your experience in media so far and what you want to do with a career in media.
  3. Five samples of your work (print, broadcast or online). You are encouraged to show work in multiple formats.

If selected for an interview, candidates will need to bring two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from your high school media adviser. If your school has no media adviser, a letter from an English teacher or counselor is acceptable.

Applications must be sent by Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. Interviews will be held in Elliott Hall on the morning of Friday, Feb. 12.
