Preparation for Diverse Careers
WSU's sociology department emphasizes a social justice perspective, and students develop
insights about the effects of social structures on individual lives and communities.
For example, faculty research focuses on issues such as teen dating violence, sexual
minority well-being, runaway youth, gentrification, educational policy, and caregiving
in later life. Programs prepare students for employment in a number of different fields:
graduates work in a number of different research positions and non-profit agencies,
and many have gone on to competitive PhD programs across the nation.
