About the program
Wichita State’s Bachelor of Applied Arts (BAA) in Media Arts with a concentration in Animation combines storytelling, artistic practice, and technical skills to prepare students for careers in the evolving field of animation. Students build a strong foundation in animation principles, life drawing, sculpting, and visual design while developing their 2D and 3D animation abilities. As the boundaries between 2D and 3D production continue to blur, students benefit from an understanding of both disciplines. Our integrated approach encourages students to work across traditional and digital forms, helping 3D artists strengthen their 2D skills while giving 2D artists experience with 3D production.
Through hands-on learning, students bring characters to life using industry-standard tools including Maya, Storyboard Pro, Nuke, ZBrush, and other industry standard software. Students gain experience across the animation pipeline while developing their individual creative strengths for work in character animation, visual effects, and motion graphics across feature film, television, streaming, and online media.
Graduates are prepared for roles including 2D and 3D animators, storyboard artists, concept artists, character riggers, technical directors, art directors, visual effects artists, compositors, and other animation disciplines.
