Graduate CertificateMusic Composition

The graduate certificate in music composition provides students with a credential in music composition through graduate coursework and applied composition (one-on-one lessons). You'll build a portfolio of original compositions that could be submitted for publication, public performance or used in applying for doctoral programs and grants.

This certificate is designed for students who already hold a bachelor's degree in music, music education or a related field. To enroll, applicants will submit two or three scores and recordings (live performances preferred, computer realizations acceptable) of contrasting, original compositions and a statement of purpose describing their interest in music composition and career goals.
