Graduate CertificateMusicology

The graduate certificate in musicology provides students with a credential in musicology through graduate coursework and directed practice in original research in the field. The certificate is a valuable complement for careers in performance, education, librarianship or doctoral study.

This certificate is designed for students who already hold or are currently pursuing a Master of Music, Master of Music Education or Master of Arts in a related field. To enroll, applicants will submit one example of scholarly writing and a statement of purpose describing their interest in musicology and career goals.

Curriculum

Students in this program take courses in research methods, seminars in music history, and electives that support their research interests, culminating in one or more pieces of original scholarship in musicology or a related field (such as ethnomusicology or sound studies). This guided research can be submitted for publication, presented at scholarly and professional conferences, or used in applications for jobs, grants, or further studies.
