Pau, France

Pau, France is located in southern France, 1 hour from the France-Spain border. It’s situated on the coast, where surfing and beach resorts are plentiful, but also 1 hour away from the Pyrenees mountains and its ski resorts. Sports are a popular part of the Pau culture including many high-level sports clubs (Élan Béarnais, Section Paloise rugby), high quality facilities (climbing walls, whitewater pool, Olympic swimming pool) and many sporting events throughout the year (tour de France, Automobile Grand Prix, an International Three-day Event, the Kayak World Cup, the Basque Pelota World Cup). In addition to sports, you can learn about the French culture at the 3 national museums, visit the theatre, or take a quick trip to Spain to learn about the Spanish and Basque Country culture. Also within a short distance is the beautiful French wine countryside. The population of Pau is around 75,000 making it a nice and relaxing city to live in and return to on the weekends when traveling around Europe or France.
