Resources Make Wichita State a Military-Friendly Institution

The mission of Military & Student Services at Wichita State is to assist current military members (Active Duty, Guard, Reserves), Veterans, and their dependents with their education benefits, adjusting to college and in some cases civilian life.

Their office provides many resources for military students so they can have a fun, successful and meaningful college experience. Specific benefits include free tutoring, success plans and Veteran mentoring.

There is also an amazing physical space that active military members, Veterans, and dependents can take full advantage of. The Captain Riley Leroy Pitts Military and Veteran Student Center is just the place for them. Some of the services provided are:

  • Computer access and free printing
  • Help desk staffed by Veterans
  • Lounge and study area
  • Free coffee and tea
  • Social events
  • Assistance with VA educational benefits
  • Billiards table

For right now this space is located in Grace Wilkie Hall Room 105 on the main campus, but soon it will move over to the new Shocker Success Center where there will be space for more resources for our military-affiliated students.

Wichita State also offers another resource for our incoming Veteran students - Veterans Upward Bound. VUB’s goal is to prepare Veterans for post-secondary education. It is a TRIO Program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Wichita State's program serves Veterans residing in Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, Kingman, Sumner and Reno counties. While in the VUB program students will work one-on-one with an academic advisor discussing interests, and short-term and long-term goals. A plan is developed following an academic assessment to determine strengths and weaknesses. VUB also assists with school applications and the financial aid process. It also gives referrals to other agencies providing services to Veterans.

Wichita State has been recognized as being one of the top Military and Veteran friendly campuses in the United States because we care about those students that have proudly served and those dependents that support them. We are happy to work with you through the admissions process and all the way to graduation.
