Coaching Staff Fills Shocker Bowling Roster
WICHITA, Kan. – – After a grueling three weeks of tryouts on some demanding conditions, the Wichita State Shocker Bowling Coaching Staff added three women and two men to the selected team.
The three-week tryout process was conducted to determine the remaining spots on the selected teams, as well as the spots available on the developmental teams.
Joining the ten ladies who were pre-selected are Ashlyn Herzberg (Wichita, Kan.), Rachel Moe (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Michaela Oehler (Singapore). Oehler competed with the Lady Shox last year on the selected team. Herzberg spent last year on the developmental team and Moe found her way on the selected team after two years on the developmental squad.
Herzberg, Moe and Oehler join Brianna Amidon (Pittsfield, Mass.), Sydney Brummett (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Hollyann Johansen (Wichita, Kan.), Sierra Kanemoto (Dayton, Ohio), Dasha Kovalova (Moscow, Russia), Kristie López (Ponce, Puerto Rico), Heather Melvin (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Laura Plazas (Bogotá, Colombia), Chenoa Rhoades (Lafayette, Ind.) and Caitlin Tam (Markham, Ontario). This is the first time in quite a while the coaching staff has selected 13 women for the selected team. The Lady Shox are coming off a successful season where they won nine of the twelve tournaments they bowled and led qualifying at every event.
“This will be an interesting year with a lot of new faces. Our challenge will be getting everyone to help each other and pulling in the same direction,” said Assistant Coach Mark Lewis.
The men’s team sees a familiar face and a new face to round out their squad. The coaching staff selected 2015 Team USA member Chris Colella (Templeton, Mass.). This is Chris’s third year on the selected team. They also selected last season’s developmental team member Packy Hanrahan (Greenwich, Conn.).
Coming off a third place finish at the 2014 Intercollegiate Team Championships, Chris and Packy, along with AJ Chapman (Manchester, IA), Stephen Cowland (Blackbutt, Australia), Tyler Cruz (Tacoma, Wash.), Derick Holmes (Wichita, Kan.), Mitch Hupé (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Francois Lavoie (Québec City, Québec), Matt McNiel (Prior Lake, Minn.), Thomas Peters (Belleville, Ill.) and Justin Zwaschka (St. Joseph, Mo.) make up this year’s men’s selected team.
Five women were selected to the developmental team: Line Berg Almestrand (Honefoss, Norway), Julie Nolte (Wichita, Kan.), Catherine Prather (Milton, Fla.), Jordon Stern (Yuma, Ariz.) and Katelyn Tollefson (Leavenworth, Kan.).
Adrian Bohanan (Wichita, Kan.), Jason Ciszewski (South Amboy, N.J.), Derick Fair (Diamondhead, Miss.), Alex Lankford (Moon Township, Pa.), Brandon Martin (Derby, Kan.), Jack Stewart (Park City, Kan.), Lucas Vernon (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and Dylan Woods (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) make up the men’s developmental team.
“This is a talented group with a nice mix of personalities and a variety of experiences. Getting this team to work together and improve will be a fun and challenging task,” Head Coach Gordon Vadakin
The Shocker’s season begins October 11-12 in Wichita for the MidStates Classic.
