WICHITA, Kan. – The first members of the 2016-2017 selected teams were chosen by the coaching staff. Seven ladies and eight men were pre-selected and placed directly on the selected team for 2016-2017.

After a rollercoaster of a season, the men finished third at the 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships. Five members from that team along with three new freshmen make up the pre-selected group of men.

The returning men who received direct placement are:
• Brandon Biondo – sophomore – Carpentersville, Ill.
• Mitch Hupé – senior – Winnipeg, MB, Canada
• Wesley Low – sophomore – Palmdale, Calif.
• Thomas Peters – junior – Belleville, Ill.
• Justin Zwaschka – senior – St. Joseph, Mo.

The three new players to be directly placed are:
• Bradley Crouse – Northampton High School – Nazareth, Penn.
• Kamron Doyle – Brentwood High School – Brentwood, Tenn.
• Jerod Hromek – Circle High School – Towanda, Kan.

Six ladies who were part of the Intercollegiate Team Championships runner-up team were pre-selected to the 2016-2017 team. The Lady Shox will add one freshman right away to the pre-selected team as well.

The six returning team members who have been selected are:
• Sydney Brummett – junior – Fort Wayne, Ind.
• Estefania Cobo – sophomore – Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico
• Hollyann Johansen – junior – Wichita, Kan.
• Sierra Kanemoto – junior – Dayton, Ohio
• Kristie López – senior – Ponce, Puerto Rico
• Laura Plazas – senior – Bogotá, Colombia

The incoming freshman player granted direct placement is:
• Mina San Nicolás – Centro Universitario México – Texcoco, Mexico

“Our players have some big shoes to fill this year on both sides. We are excited to bring in some great players and are confident our returning players have worked hard over the summer,” assistant coach Mark Lewis said. “Finishing second and third at the ITC left a sour taste in their mouths, I think they are hungry to get back to work.”

Additional men and women may be added to the selected team upon completion of the tryout process in September. In addition to the selected team, all of the 2016-2017 developmental team members for the Shockers will be selected after the annual three week tryout period, scheduled for late August through early September 2016.
