Many Wichita State faculty, staff, students and alum are involved in community service projects. The Wu Crew is Shocker faculty and staff serving the Wichita community through personal projects and group projects. WSU faculty and staff that volunteer their time on various projects that serve the community can be a part of the Wu Crew.

In September of 2021, the Office of Engagement and the WU Crew announce the literacy effort, "WU Crew Reads Program Kickoff at Gordon Parks Academy".
