Hi there. My name is Shala Johnson from Topeka, Kansas. I will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrating Marketing Communication at Wichita State University in May of 2024 and will enter graduate school pursuing my master’s degree in communication after that. I am currently interning at Visit Wichita, a visitor and convention bureau. I am a marketing intern with responsibilities such as writing and social media management. I have the opportunity to create fun TikTok’s and numerous blog posts that I am super proud of. Of course, I am a part of the amazing Widener Global Leaders Program, in the third cohort where I can network and evolve professionally and individually. However, I think my favorite part of the program is dressing professionally with the other participants.
I am looking to become more involved on campus through the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) organization. Outside of WSU, I am looking to become a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA). These organizations help me improve my top two passions, myself, and my marketing skills. I have utilized the classes in my major, my three previous internships, my current fourth internship, and additional organizations. By doing so, I have met so many amazing people and have made long-lasting friendships.
A quote that represents my life is, “Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keep leading us down new paths.” This quote is from the movie Meet the Robinsons. I didn’t necessarily have a set plan coming into college, I just knew WSU was where I needed to be. Looking back, that was one of the best decisions I have made, and I am so grateful to be involved and a Widener Global Leaders Program participant.
