Luke Bumm is a finance major at the Barton School of Business whose college experience reflects drive, humility, and gratitude. He chose Wichita State University for its hands-on learning environment, strong corporate partnerships, and faculty who bring real-world expertise into the classroom. From the start, Luke recognized that the Barton School’s resources and network would provide him with opportunities to grow both academically and professionally.
Luke has been deeply involved in student life at WSU. He serves as Vice President of Scholarship for Beta Theta Pi, Vice President of the Interfraternity Council, and Student Body Treasurer. Each role has strengthened his leadership, organization, and collaboration skills while teaching him how to balance responsibility with authenticity.
His most meaningful experience as a Barton student was his internship with Koch Industries, where he applied what he learned in class to a professional setting. The internship confirmed his ability to contribute to complex projects and make an impact within a large organization. Feeling his classroom knowledge translate into real results was one of the most rewarding moments of his college career.
After graduation, Luke plans to return to Koch Industries, where he received a full-time offer, and eventually pursue a career in sports finance. He is inspired by the idea of combining his passion for athletics with his professional interests in financial strategy and operations.
Luke’s parents have been his greatest inspiration, showing him through example what hard work, consistency, and perseverance look like. Their encouragement and belief in his potential have been central to his success. Luke is also a twin, a fun fact he enjoys sharing, and credits his family dynamic for instilling teamwork, competitiveness, and support.
Being recognized as one of Barton’s 25 Under 25 is especially meaningful for Luke because it allows him to inspire others. He hopes that his story will encourage students to take advantage of Barton’s many opportunities and to give their best effort in everything they do. His journey represents the power of initiative and the value of seizing every chance to learn and lead.
