Isabel Fulkerson is an economics major who brings intellectual curiosity and an adventurous mindset to her academic journey. She chose the Barton School of Business for its supportive environment and the breadth of opportunities available to students eager to explore leadership, global learning, and professional growth.
Isabel is a dedicated member of the Consulting Club, where she evaluates business case studies and presents recommendations to Deloitte consultants, faculty, and peers. Competing at the UNL Consulting Case Competition and placing fourth nationally was one of her most meaningful achievements. It reinforced her belief in preparation, teamwork, and the value of stepping into challenging spaces.
She also serves as Secretary of the Cummings Student Managed Investment Fund, contributes to Model United Nations, and volunteers with the International Buddy Program. Through these roles, Isabel has developed strong communication, analytical thinking, and leadership skills. Each experience has helped her understand how economic concepts play out in real-world contexts.
Isabel studied abroad in Puebla, Mexico, where she immersed herself fully in Spanish language and culture. That experience strengthened her interest in international development, global economics, and cross-cultural collaboration. She is also planning a study abroad semester in Chile, reflecting her commitment to exploring the world while broadening her perspective.
She hopes to build a career in economic development or global policy, ideally working as an Economic Foreign Service Officer. Isabel is also interested in nonprofits that focus on sustainability, as well as long-term opportunities with institutions like the Federal Reserve.
Isabel draws inspiration from her upper-class friends and from her parents, whose dedication to their own work taught her the value of perseverance and intellectual curiosity. A fun detail about Isabel is that she loves baking bread, which gives her a creative and relaxing outlet outside her rigorous academic commitments.
Being recognized as one of Barton’s 25 Under 25 honors Isabel’s commitment to leadership, global thinking, and service. Her journey reflects the best of what it means to be a Shocker: curious, ambitious, compassionate, and ready to explore the world.
